Alberta Agriculture and Forestry Crop Specialist, Mark Cutts, says June was a good month for rain for many parts of the Province.

Cutts says the moisture in areas which received rain will help developing crops as they continue to mature.

According to the Provencal Ag Department's most recent Crop Report for June 25, the rain has improved crop growing conditions provincially by five per cent, which marks 71 per cent of crops in good or excellent condition.

This closes in on the five year average of 72 per cent.

However, Cutts says he's crossing his fingers for some more moisture in the Southern region.

"Through Lethbridge County and over East into Cypress, and back around into Medicine Hat and towards the Southwest of Warner, it looks like they've only received 10 to 20 millimeters so far this month (June)."

He says many farmers are controlling weeds this time of year with fungicide applications, which he suspects to be starting to wrap up in most areas of the province.

As far as pasture and tame hay, the Crop Report says growth conditions benefited from recent precipitation in all regions except the South.

It says Compared to the prior week, both pasture and tame hay growth conditions improved provincially by seven per cent.
