Alberta Pork has confirmed no other cases of the porcine epidemic diarrhea (PED) virus have been identified in the province as of the end of January.

On Tuesday, January 8, the farm group announced a 400-head hog operation had contracted the PED virus.

This was the first time the disease was ever reported in Alberta.

In partnership with Alberta Agriculture and Forestry, Alberta Pork continues the investigation to identify a source.

Alberta Pork says several theories have been ruled out, including introduction by animals or animal transport conveyances.

Since the outbreak was discovered, no pigs have left the infected farm and work is underway to see if the animals are still infectious.

Alberta Pork says supervised animal shipments may resume in the coming week.
