COVID-19 cases continue to increase with 90 active cases and 9 deaths in Strathmore and 34 active cases in Wheatland County.

On Monday morning, Premier Jason Kenney announced that sometime today or tomorrow the province will run out of COVID-19 vaccine.

He provided an update on the vaccination program for Alberta.

In a statement, Kenney said that AHS has given out nearly 90,000 doses of vaccines to health care workers, staff, and residents in continuing care.

“However, due to the unexpected supply disruption the federal government announced last week, Alberta will have no more vaccine doses available to administer as first doses by the end of today or early tomorrow.”

This means that there will be no more new first dose appointments. It also means that vaccinations of First Nations and Metis people over the age of 75 have been put on hold.

“We have quite simply run out of vaccine supply,” said Kenney.

He said Alberta will get more vaccines this week.

“Even with the new shipment of Pfizer vaccines expected later this week we won’t have enough vaccine to continue with new first dose appointments,” he said. Second dose appointments won’t be cancelled, and enough vaccines will be allocated.
