The weather in Alberta is known for how quickly it can change in the span of a day.

The Town of Strathmore is under a heat warning, but this morning also saw a dense fog blanket the community. While the fog has cleared, it’s important to know what to do when you encounter changing weather conditions.

Meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada Jesse Wagar explained that we can expect more fog towards the end of the summer season, when kids are starting to go back to school.

“There is some patchy fog up through the Foothills. It's not just around the Calgary and Strathmore areas. There is some up west of the city and in northwest of the city, sort of through Nordegg and all the way up to almost Whitecourt,” she said.

“It is a bit of a foggy day in some areas of Alberta and we do recommend that in any kind of changing weather conditions that you're driving to the conditions make sure you turn on your vehicle headlights so that the lights are on in both the front and the back of your vehicle,” Wagar said.

“That’s important so that people behind you can see you."

She added you can also try simply waiting the fog out if you're concerned for your safety.

“This type of fog that we're seeing around Alberta this hour, it usually burns off by late morning, so if you can delay your trip until the fog burns off, you can do that as well, although I know that's not always possible for everybody,” she said.
