The Strathmore Wheatland Chamber of Commerce (SWCC) will be holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday April 27 at 2:00 p.m.

SWCC board member Natasha Fyfe explained what people can expect from this year's meeting, "The AGM focuses on what we did last year and what we're going to do this upcoming year, we will look at our strategic plan and what we want to get accomplished this year, It's also a great opportunity for new directors to come and see what we're all about and see if they want to get involved."

This year the AGM will be hosted online, so anyone from the community or any business that wants to join can send an e-mail to swcchambers@gmail.com and will be sent a direct link to attend, explained Fyfe.

There will be spots opening up on the Board of Directors as Fyfe noted that directors can age out their positions if they don't get re-elected or if their term is up, or they may choose not to put their name in if they are moving on to other endeavors.

Fyfe shares that there are other ways for people to be involved with the chamber and not necessarily have to take on the role and responsibility of a director.

"If you want to help out and you want to have a say in the things that we do in the town you can join a committee, we have an events committee, a commerce committee, or a communications committee."

For any business that would like to become a member of the chamber, Fyfe noted the benefits they can provide range from additional resources to insurance.

"We provide a lot of networking and educational opportunities so if you need any help with social media, we have something during Small Business Week that can help you with that.  We provide a lot of programs, not only within the SWCC but also with the Alberta Chamber of Commerce so if we don't have something set up to help you, they possibly do as well."

With the costs of everything rising one benefit that Fyfe noted could offer big savings to businesses is the group insurance plan the chamber offers.

"This is great for small businesses in town that only have a couple of employees, insurance plans can be really expensive. So what we've done is all pooled together and we get a good rate for them."

The 564 Trade Show will also be returning this year to the Strathmore Motor Products Sports Centre on Sunday, May 28 from 10:00-5:00.  For businesses wanting to take part Fyfe said to visit theswcc.ca to register and noted that is also where businesses can register to be a part of the chamber or request any information.
