Come watch butterflies mature from caterpillars to fully mature butterflies and then be released this month at the library with Hope 4 the Future.

We spoke with Hope 4 Future’s Adelaide Milian-Stewart who explained who the organization is and their motivation for this unique programming.

“It's an event that's run by Hope 4 the Future, which is a program that's run for both seniors, youth and parents of preschoolers in the community,” she said. “We're a program that's meant to help people with support through their mental health, and we thought the grant in the program for the youth part is coming to an end, so we thought we'd do a butterfly release that says goodbye to the program, but also just to open springtime and the end of the pandemic,” she said.

Throughout the month of May people can drop-in at the library to visit and look at the butterflies as they mature.

“They're currently in their pupa stage, so they're in their little cocoons right now and you can go look at them. We just ask them not to touch them,” she explained.

On May 27 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Hope 4 the Future will be hosting a release party. The butterflies will be released at about 4:30 p.m.

“We're going to have crafts and all sorts of fun things for all ages there during the day,” said Milian-Stewart.

“We want as many people as possible to come, watch the butterflies,” Milian-Stewart explained the butterflies are called painted lady butterflies. “They're a native species to Canada, and hopefully if all goes right, they're hatched by then, and we can release them as long as it's a nice day.”
