The Alberta Cancer Foundation (ACF), Alberta Health Services (AHS) and the University of Calgary (UofC) have announced a historic $50 million donation to the Calgary Cancer Centre from the Arthur J.E Child Foundation, the Calgary Cancer Centre will then be named the Arthur J.E Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre.

This donation will accelerate research innovations and will provide world-leading cancer care and treatments to Albertans, Calgarians and Canadians. This is the largest donation in the history of Alberta Health Services.

Minister of Health Adrianna LaGrange expressed that the cancer centre is so full of potential and that there have been some great strides in medicine made in that building.

"This is what we want, and this is what Albertans deserve. I have no doubt that the kind of research that will be done here will go on to benefit not only Albertans but also the world at large, helping everyone that is dealing with a cancer diagnosis because even in the most high-tech laboratories and research spaces, it is most important to remember that people are still at the heart of it all."

LaGrange says that this donation is not only for improving the lives of people in Calgary and beyond but is to support achievements that are being made in medicine every day.

"This gift will go a long way in the search for treatments and cures and create many reasons to have hope."

The Arthur J.E Comprehensive Cancer Centre will be the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Canada and a world-leading health facility that will be dedicated to research and education while delivering cancer care all under one roof.

The Arthur J.E Comprehensive Cancer Centre is scheduled to open in Calgary in 2024.
