Chestermere residents will soon have the opportunity to elect a new mayor and majority of council.

The byelection will take place on June 24, which comes off the heels of the removal of ex-mayor Jeff Colvin and three councillors from their positions last year.

Municipal Affairs Minister Ric McIver revealed that the city's finances were mismanaged and not up to par.

According to a report done by Deloitte Canada, there were 'significant gaps in the city’s financial management'.

The former mayor and three councillors could still run again if they wanted.

Nomination papers are due by May 27.
