Ward Drydale was working on a rooftop with a coworker last week before tragedy struck. Falling backwards off of the roof, Drydale fell 25 feet and landed on gravel,  getting seriously injured and needing surgery at Foothills Hospital as a result.

Ward's wife Kim explained his injuries, according to a call she got from a doctor in the ER at the hospital.

“He dislocated three out of four bones in his left hand on the top and he had to have surgery on that to pull the bones back and put some pins in,” she said. He sustained multiple injuries including a compound fracture on the humerus bone of his right arm, four broken ribs, and dislocated his pelvis so he can't walk on one side," she said.

The accident has him dependent on others and bedridden.

“I think it's very frustrating because he's very dependent on everybody else and he's a pretty independent guy. He likes to be physical so this is pretty hard to go from that to nothing at all,” she explained.

As Drydale recovers, His wife Kim says she's so very thankful for all of the community support that she, Ward and their children have received in the wake of the accident.

“The support has been amazing, every time I read on Facebook the well wishes, the prayers, I just tear up. I can't believe how this community and surrounding communities have helped us so much. We've been getting food, offers of cleaning the house, help with my boys if I need because I have two boys, 13 and 11. If they need to go somewhere and stay over while I’m in the hospital. So it’s just been absolutely amazing,” she said.

Kim said things are going well and Ward is recovering. The couple recently got the news that he will be moved to Strathmore, so he will be closer to home.

She explained that she had to take a leave from work while he’d been in the hospital, so a Go Fund Me account was set up for the family to help to pay bills, transportation and medical costs.

“I'm lucky my boys are old enough that they can step up and help,” she says. “The help that we've had is amazing.”

Kim says they are very thankful for the support they have received from Strathmore and the surrounding community.

“I have so many thank yous, but it's just overwhelming,” she said.

The Go Fund Me account has been set up for the family to offset some of their everyday expenses as they will not have much income during Ward’s recovery. If you can, please donate here:
