A number of farmers will be busy trying to finish the harvest before they can begin with Spring Seeding.

Here in Saskatchewan, about two million acres are still left out in the field.

Jim Wickett, farms in the Rosetown area, and says we are already feeling the impact COVID19 is having on grain and livestock markets.

He says who knows what's going to happen in the weeks ahead as we approach spring seeding.

“There's a lot of, what if, questions out there and I think you adjust your plan and you hope for the best and, we'll see what happens. You know, we've farmed through wars. We've farmed through a previous Trudeau government, and we'll get through this. But, you know I don't think it'll be a normal spring.”

He says the challenges and travel bans with COVID19 will likely impact some farmers who rely on foreign workers for additional help.

Wickett is Chair of the Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association and knows one farmer who hires employees from Europe.

“I know in this particular case it's about mid-April when his guys usually show up. And I know from other guys that get foreign labour that's kind of the same thing. So, we'll really have to watch that situation and hopefully those guys are getting out ahead of things.”

Wickett notes the public needs to respect the government recommendations.
