The Disc Golf course around Strathmore will be closed until further notice. The Town has been advised by the Environmental Public Health of Alberta Health Services that Disc Golf is a non-essential service and should be closed for public use. The Disc Golf cages/baskets will be covered as of 9 a.m. on Friday, April 24, but the space around the course will remain green space that families can still utilize.

The Town of Strathmore recently closed all sports fields in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19. Some confusion surrounded the initial closures, but the town made it clear that the closure of the fields was more targeted toward organized sports. The green spaces will still be able to be used by families as long as they are practicing safe social distancing.

Communications Strategist for the Town of Strathmore Geoff Person explained the closure of the sports fields, “When we announced the closure of the sports fields, there were several areas that we said were still under review and that they would remain under review. In fact, all the sports fields will be remaining under review so that we can always make sure they are aligning with AHS guidelines and our own community guidelines.”

When asked about residents using green spaces Person said, “you can still use that space to go out, you can fly a kite, you can go out with your kids and as long as you’re maintaining that physical distance you can play catch or you can use that space.”
