Brandon Lorenzo is an up and coming favourite in Alberta country music, but this past weekend he probably had what is the most favourite moment of his career so far.

Brandon is a busy guy with his music, just releasing a brand new single, then you add in shows and a full-time day job teaching, his schedule is packed. Right now he is booking gigs into August already, but his calendar might just be getting a lot fuller after a surprise performance this week that has got everyone talking.

Two weeks ago, Brandon was nominated for two categories at the Country Music Alberta Awards, which he said was great because they got to do it in person again,

"I was nominated for two awards again this time. So the horizon, male artists of the year and the fan's choice, which was super cool, didn't take the win on either of them. But that's OK for me I always say just to be nominated in itself is a win."

While being nominated again and getting a chance to attend was a highlight of his career, this weekend he got a chance to hit the stage with a huge country music artist Brett Kissel,

"We met in the Airdrie liquor store when he was doing a whole signing for his Deuce vodka promotion. That was in November of last year and yeah, it was super cool that I just decided to kind of show up with a guitar and have him sign it. And he was like, well, you actually play this thing or is it just a wall decoration? And I was like, Oh no  I can play. So he's like, well, play me something."

That meeting turned into a chance to wow a huge crowd during Kissel's show at the BMO Centre in Calgary Saturday evening, which also featured Tyler Joe Miller and Jess Moskaluke,

"He got me up on stage to play, which was super cool and he actually got the band to learn the song that we sang in the liquor store that day, which was Tennessee whiskey by Chris Stapleton. It was surreal, it went by in what felt like 30 seconds."

While it was a rush to get on stage and play with Kissel's band this wasn't the first time he had worked with them,

"His band have also played on my singles as well. So you know, it was kind of a cool thing 'cause I kind of already have a relationship with those guys."

The crowd was extremely welcoming, they screamed, chanted and sang along while Lorenzo gave it his all,

"You know to hear your name chanted before you even open your mouth to sing, and then afterwards to is just insane. But I know there was a lot of Airdrie people there because I had a lot of messages coming in and even before when he was like there's this kid from Airdrie and his name was Brandon, a lot of people were already cheering."

It was the kind of moment that anyone who performs hopes will happen when they get their big break,

"Yeah, that's something that, I've kind of dreamed of my whole life with performing and stuff. It was so crazy and I'm so thankful Brett gave me that opportunity."

This is only the beginning for the Airdrie musician, he hopes to get more opportunities like this and the feeling of the moment is something he will continue to strive to feel over and over again during his future career,

"A lot of that screaming in that crowd participation starts and that's definitely something that I want to see more of at my own shows, hopefully soon and there's hopefully more."

One day Brandon hopes to be in the same position as Kissel, he hopes to emulate the kind of performer he is on stage and be able to give someone else a chance to experience this kind of feeling for the first time,

"I've always kind of appreciated how supportive the music industry is, especially within here in Alberta. And I feel like, if you can give somebody else that opportunity then definitely shoot the shot at doing that because you know you're never gonna get the opportunity unless somebody gives you that opportunity. And I've always been a huge fan of supporting local and stuff like that. So I mean, if there's somebody I come across that I definitely feel can do something like that? Absolutely. I would love to be able to give somebody that opportunity, just like Brett did."
