At the March 2nd Strathmore town council meeting, the Town put forward a notice of motion about post-secondary institution attraction and retention for the community.

The town council will direct the administration to prepare recommendations based on research in other communities as well as identify elements in the ‘Alberta 2030’ initiative to ensure all Albertans have access to high-quality post-secondary education.

Councillor Denise Peterson said, “I have immense interest and great hope.” Deputy Mayor Jason Montgomery said he also thought the notice of motion was positive. “Sometimes it takes asking the right questions and pointing people in the right direction and I think that there are some questions and some information that will be gathered that will lead to some good things through this notice of motion.”

The notice of motion asks Administration to report back to town council with recommendations that address Strathmore’s needs within 30 days.

A notice of motion is a document where a member of the town council announces a matter they wish to have considered by the council.

The item will be addressed at the March 16th council meeting.
