With just a few weeks left in the regular season, the Strathmore Wheatland Kings are off to a great start in 2020. A good team push wouldn't be possible without guys like defenceman Thomas Tyson, number 23 for the Kings helping by stopping shots and holding the blue line. That's why he's our King of the Week!

Tyson has been playing hockey for about 17 years now and he says that it really grew on him at a young age. His dad put him in skates at four years old, and he just never looked back. Growing up watching hockey with his dad just added to his love for the game. It can be a very addictive sport he said. This is Tyson's second year with the Kings and he says he loves it out here.

The Kings have their first home game of 2020 this weekend and Tyson is excited to be able to play in front of the home crowd again. They're hoping for a big turnout for their first game back home and looking to carry on the good momentum they have to the start of the year.

Nothing too out of the ordinary for Tyson when it comes to getting ready for game day, just makes sure he's well-rested and doesn't sleep in, otherwise he'll be too sluggish in the first period. Being productive throughout the day also helps him come into the game ready to play.

Outside of the rink, Tyson can normally be found working hard and staying productive, and in the summertime, he keeps active by playing golf.

After playing hockey for all these years, Tyson says his favourite hockey memory is clinching provincials with just three seconds left in his last year of midget level hockey. It was pretty surreal and a moment he said he'll never forget.

Make sure to come out and cheer on Tyson and the Kings as they take on the Mountainview Colts this weekend in their first home game of 2020. Puck drops at 8 p.m. on Saturday.
