If you have noticed some commotion over in the Lakewood development area, have no fear, The development is just making some more room!

The loss of trees has some residents concerned.

"Providing healthy green spaces for Strathmore is a priority for the Town,” commented Charles Proctor, Manager of Development Services for the Town of Strathmore.

“Environmental studies were completed as part of the development process for Lakewood. These studies measured the impact of the project and searched for any threatened or endangered species on the site. Because these lands had previously been the site of other structures, the studies concluded that the development would have low to moderate effect on the loss of vegetation. We’re confident that Lakewood has incorporated natural features wherever possible.”

The impact made by the development was previously explained to Town of Strathmore council.

“Public engagement is necessary before the bylaw can be adopted or refused by Town Council. The Town welcomed public feedback on the Lakewood ASP at an open house and public hearing. Strathmore’s residents having opportunities to comment on proposed developments is an important part of our work and is a mandated part of the Municipal Government Act’s requirements for ASPs.”

There was no public feedback at the time of the decision.
