Between bonspiels and the Excel Cup, Team Molnar from Strathmore has been busy the past few weekends. On November 23 and 24 the team was in Okotoks where they went 3-0 in the round robin play advancing them to the semi finals where they won 9-5. This would mean Team Molnar would take on a team from Korea in the finals. Unfortunately for Team Molnar they would come up a little short with a 9-3 loss.

However, with the success they had in Okotoks the team finished second in the Excel points race and get an invite to Edmonton to play in the Excel Cup playoffs on November 29 to December 1. The top four teams in Alberta and two from Saskatchewan played in the Excel Cup. The top teams are determined by cumulative point gained through the season so far and teams get points for game wins and finishes in bonspiels. Unfortunately for Team Molnar dealing with sickness and changing ice conditions they finished 1-4 in round robin play on the weekend and were out of the playoffs. A team from Cochrane finished with the most points at the end of the Excel Cup and now qualify for provincials.

Team Molnar looks to bounce back this weekend as they play in a U21 qualifier in Black Diamond. The top five teams will go on to provincials held on January 1 to 5 in Lloydminster.
