Get swept away in the musical comedy Mamma Mia produced by the students of Strathmore High School.

ABBA fans will love this rendition of the famous play. June 4th to the 8th students from the SHS Drama 20 and 30 courses will present the musical theatre event. The script is written by Catherine Johnson and Music by Benny Anderson and Bjorn Ulaevus.

We spoke with backstage production managers from SHS Haisya Smith and Kayey Cerbo about the production. Smith said, “There's lots of singing and dancing, as well as the regular acting.”

She explained that there will be a cast of over 70 students participating in drama and advanced acting classes as well as technical theatre students who help out behind the scenes.

It’s something new and exciting that will get you out of the house, said Smith.

“I love the songs. The songs are so fun to listen to and the choreography in it is awesome to watch,” she said.

The production will run from June 4th to 8th with two sittings. The play runs at 7pm throughout the week, with a matinee on Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.

We spoke with Adrianna Kiemeny a dancer in the production.

Kiemeny said, “Right now we're doing run-throughs, meaning we've finished prepping all of our show completely. Now it's more of the cleaning, prepping and making sure that we have costumes, props, everything set up. I think within the next couple of weeks they'll start doing more of like the dress rehearsals.”

“I feel like the best part is seeing a family come together,” she said speaking of a coming of age feel to the script.

"It’s finding yourself and then realizing what you actually want is not the same as what you thought you wanted,” she said. “There's a lot of dancing. It’s upbeat and of course there' has to be ABBA songs, so you definitely enjoy it. Overall very, very interesting. You'll probably laugh the whole time,” she said.

Audiences will enjoy the iconic ABBA soundtracks as well. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $10.
