The Strathmore Matrix Cheer Team was in Medicine Hat last weekend for the 'Swarm the Hat' cheer competition.  After a great showcase for family and friends in December, the team took that momentum to their first competition of the year, the teams came home with top three finishes in all divisions.

Matrix Cheer took four of their five teams to compete in Medicine Hat with athletes ranging in ages from six to 17.  The tiny team ranging from three to five-year-old competitors will compete in their first competition in two weeks in Lethbridge.

Each team that competed finished in the top three of their divisions with Taya Brindle placing first in her Youth 2 individual category.  Team Gold Rush finished first in the Mini Prep 1 group with a perfect run and no deductions, team Glimmer placed second in the Youth 2 group and team Sparkle placed third in the Youth 1 group.

Matrix Cheers' senior team Platinum Elite placed first and also won the title of Grand Champion having the highest score for the entire competition.

Three teams will be heading to Edmonton January 18 to 20 for the next competition with all five teams competing in Lethbridge the following weekend.

Cassi Weiss Head Coach and owner of Matrix cheer is looking ahead. "We have a recreational precompetitive session starting this week. Our club offers cheerleading, tumbling, and ninja programs. Registration is open now and is fully online at www.strathmorematrixcheer.com," said Weiss

"A home competition may be in our future however right now we are focussing on growing our club," said Weiss.
