The Strathmore Ag Society has been busy planning the Strathmore Stampede, and this year they are also celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Ag Society.

This time around Events Coordinator Kate Dubois explained that they will be highlighting the past, "One of the areas on the ground is the Heritage Town presented by CGC, and it's going to be filled with family friendly activities going back to our agricultural roots."

Dubois noted there will be demonstrations by a blacksmith, leatherworker, beekeeper, and a gardening piece, in addition, they will have remote control chuckwagon races, pig races and 748 Kisling Farms will be back with the very popular petting zoo. In addition, the Heritage Arena will showcase the Calgary Stampede Showriders, Running with the Rams and other activities.

The weekend will get started with Free Family Friday on August 4th where visitors can get free admission to the grounds, and will showcase a ticketed concert with Corb Lund. For those wanting to attend the concert, rodeo, or see the chuckwagons in action tickets can be purchased at StrathmoreStampede.com.

Along with celebrating 50 years of the Ag Society Dubois shined a light on another milestone for one of the events.

"We're celebrating our 20th anniversary of Running With The Bulls, and we've introduced a new prize for each night for the best dressed. You can now win either the $1000 prize and the belt buckle or win the prize for best dressed," there will be the option to pre-register or sign up on the day at the grounds.

Now for those that may not want to run with the bulls, there is always the option to ride one, sort of, with the return of the mechanical bull.

Dubois said there will be some new additions this year but there will be a lot of returning favourites for the entire family including the lip sync contest.
