Heading out on the road today, travelers should prepare for snow West of Strathmore. 

April snow brings May Flowers?

It is very dry, so the snow will help bring some much-needed moisture to some areas in Alberta today. 

Environment Canada has issued a Snowfall Warning for parts of southern Alberta including Airdrie and Cochrane. 

Some regions could get total accumulations of 10 to 20 cm of snowfall.

The snow is expected to start falling in those areas this morning getting heavier throughout the afternoon. In some areas, it could accumulate to more than 20 cm. 

The snowfall is expected to taper off late Wednesday morning. 

Drivers are being reminded to drive for the conditions as visibility may be suddenly reduced at times because of the heavy snow. 

Areas included in the warning are: 

  • Mountain View Co. near Carstairs and Stirlingville
  • Mountain View Co. near Cremona and Water Valley
  • Mountain View Co. near Olds and Didsbury
  • Mountain View Co. near Sundre
  • Rocky View Co. near Airdrie and Crossfield
  • Rocky View Co. near Bottrel and Madden
  • Rocky View Co. near Cochrane

In Strathmore today expect winds between 40 to 70 km/hr with a chance of light rain or snow throughout the day into the evening, a high of 12 is forecasted for today but could feel cooler with the windchill factor, a high of 5 is expected for Wednesday, for a full 5-day forecast visit strathmorenow.com/weather.
