Melissa Matheson's grade 2 class from Wheatland Elementary School is our first classroom of the month for the 2023/2024 school year!

When Matheson heard that her class had won, she said that it coincided perfectly with the classes 'Jewel Jar'. "The 'Jewel Jar' is a little incentive program we have in our classroom for classroom commitment to build our community. So anytime we see students that are on task or they're trying their best or great listening, helpful leading random acts of kindness, anything that creates a positive learning environment, then we add jewels to the 'Jewel Jar' and when the jar is full, they get a reward."

Matheson says that this year has gone really well so far despite it being only the beginning of October. "These students have worked really hard on taking their skills to the next level. They've been doing really good with their reading and they're numeracy is coming along really well."

The thing that Matheson is most excited for this year is to watch her students grow. "I think they're all very capable and they're very hard working. So just to celebrate all their little achievements along the way, it's really rewarding to watch them."

Matheson leaves off with saying that she is just incredibly proud of her students and that they have made an awesome start to the school year.

Classroom of the Month is sponsored by Audra Reinhardt with CIR Realty with lunch provided by Boston Pizza. Congratulations to Mrs. Matheson and her grade 2 class for being September's Classroom of the Month!
