Amir Abdulrahman has been given a five-year prison sentence for his part in the death of Calgary Police Officer Sgt. Andrew Harnett. In December 2021, Abdulrahman plead guilty to manslaughter in the Court of Queen’s Bench at Calgary.

Today, Abdulrahman, who was believed to be the passenger in the SUV that dragged and killed Harnett, was sentenced in the Court of Queen’s Bench. With credit for time served, he has another three years and five months of his sentence to complete.

Abdulrahman was originally charged with first-degree murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter before Court of Queen’s Bench Justice Robert Hall in December.

On December 31, 2020, Harnett, who was a Strathmore community member, was killed during a traffic stop with an SUV.

The trial for the 18-year-old who was a youth at the time of the incident and is believed to be the driver of the vehicle, is expected to begin on Monday. He is charged with First Degree Murder.
