RCMP have confirmed that a 51-year-old woman from Red Deer has died following a multi-vehicle crash Tuesday evening.

At 10:38 p.m., Airdrie RCMP received a report of a collision on Highway 9 east of Range Road 252 near Beiseker.

"Upon arrival, officers observed that a passenger car was involved in a head-on collision with a semi-tractor trailer. The driver of the car, a 39-year-old male resident of Red Deer, was taken to the hospital by EMS with serious, life-threatening injuries," police said in a release.

The 51-year-old woman was the passenger in the car.

RCMP have determined that the vehicle was driving in the oncoming lane when it was struck by the semi.

At the time of the collision, fog was heavy and may have been a factor.
