September 5 is the start of the 2023-2024 school year for the Golden Hills School Division and the Christ the Redeemer Division, and with that comes the return of school zones.

School Zones are in effect the following times on school days:

  • 8:00 A.M - 9:30 A.M
  • 11:30 A.M - 1:30 P.M
  • 3:00 P.M - 4:30 P.M

Playground Zones remain in effect from 8:30 A.M to one hour after sunset. Residents are reminded that speed limits in both school zones and playground zones are 30 km/h for those times. If you are caught speeding in a school zone, fines will double and could range from $75 - $475 if you are caught driving anywhere from 1-50km over the speed limit.

With students heading back, residents will see the return of many school buses in Strathmore and across Wheatland County. Passing a stopped bus with the lights flashing could not only result in a potential accident but could net you a hefty fine of $567 and a loss of six demerits points.
