The Strathmore High School senior boys basketball squad is shaping up to be a formidable force on the court and is making moves towards being a top contender for Zones champions.  Playing a number of tournaments right before the winter break the SHS team saw a lot of success.  Travis Edwards, a guard for the senior team talks about those results, "We started off pretty strong, we had our first tournament in Sylvan Lake. We ended up going to the finals, a very tough match, and we ended up losing by a few points. The second tournament we were in Canmore ended up winning the final. Won by two against the home team, so it was exciting. The third tournament we were in Cochrane ended up going to finals against the home team, and went to overtime in that game. Then ended up losing, unfortunately in the last few minutes, but still a very strong game."

Last Wednesday the senior boy's team headed to Notre Dame Collegiate for an away game, and changed some tactics to blow away the opposing team.  Edwards talks about the game, "We had an away game versus NDC.  The game started off pretty strong, pretty tight.  Then just after half, our coach decided to put on a press, so we pulled away by quite a bit.  We ended up winning 100 to 66. Right off the hop, Daniel Moulder alleyooped from Ryerson Rushford, or Cooper Nelson. Boom, big bang boom, that is what it looked like, it was beautiful."

Now the team will push on to face a number of their rivals in the league at Beaumont's invitational and Edwards is stoked to see what will happen, "It will be a very interesting tournament.  There's a bunch of good teams that are in our three A Provincials, so it will be good to see teams, and where we end up the ranking and doing against them. It will be a very good eyeopener I think for our team. It is feeling really good, I'm feeling really confident that our team could do some damage this year."
