It is every dog owner’s worst nightmare, but thankfully this one had a happy ending.

Tori Hawes was walking with her foster pup, Siska, over two weeks ago when the pup was spooked and ran away as the leash slipped through Hawes’ hand,.

“About 17 days now ago, she went missing and we went out every day looking for her, scouting for her.”

Hawes explained that she had been fostering Siska for a couple of weeks after she was rescued in Saskatchewan. Siska had been tied up her whole life and was scared of almost everything.

“She is a fear dog so she was probably just hunkering down for however long.”

It was a long two weeks of searching and sharing posts on social media before someone reported seeing Siska.

“On the 16th day, someone saw her a block from where she took off and so we put her food out and she came and ate the food overnight. Then we got a trap, and we were able to end up catching her and now she is safe and sound.”

Hawes explained that she had started to lose hope of finding Siska and was so thankful they were able to catch her.

“I'm just so thankful she's back at our house. She's eating, she loves food now, she eats at every chance she gets and she's loving being around my other dog and cat, curling up on the couch where it's warm.”

Siska was rescued from Saskatchewan by EJ Rescue in Airdrie and fostered out to Hawes until she finds her forever home.

"The perfect home for her would be someone with another dog and someone that's willing to put in a little extra work. She just needs that love to show her that the world is not a scary place. She just needs a lot of patience and she just needs to learn to be a dog again.”

Siska is just over a year and Hawes thinks that with the right people, she could blossom into a great family pet.

“We have a special little bond now so I would like to see her find her forever home.”

Hawes would like to thank everyone who joined in on the search to find Siska.
