This week those who visit a business that is participating in the Red Rose Campaign, are reminded about the fight to end gender-based violence. On December 6, The Wheatland Crisis Society announced their 2021 Red Rose Campaign by placing the roses in local businesses with the support of Th REPs of Remax Key.

Natasha Fyfe, public education and communications for Wheatland Crisis Society, speaks about the campaign.

“On December 6, the Wheatland Crisis Society and The REPs of Remax Key, are out in your local community, handing out single red roses. This annual Red Rose Campaign is an advocacy campaign to end gender-based violence.”

Fyfe says, “We have asked local businesses to display the single red rose on December 6th in memory of the men, women, and children in Alberta who have died as a result of domestic violence.”

She explained that the campaign gets its name from the original Rose button created to commemorate 14 young women who were murdered at Ecole Polytechnique. It’s a call to action to help end violence against women and to promote strategies that stop violence within communities.

The Wheatland Crisis Society provides supports and services to women, men, and children who are affected by family abuse.
