The Town of Strathmore has a dedicated COVID-19 webpage to help ease communication on the status of the outbreak.

The town has activated the first phase of their Emergency Co-ordonation Centre. Regular updates will be provided through a dedicated COVID-19 webpage at https://strathmore.ca/en/covid-19.aspx

Mayor Pat Fule says, “the safety of our residents, employees and visitors is obviously our top concern and our emergency plans include pandemic planning. We have a well-established preparation for COVID-19. We have updated our pandemic plans for the specific realities of the virus.”

Fule says, “Right now this means we are encouraging simple, but effective public health steps that will help slow the spread of the virus.”

In light of the status of the COVID-19 outbreak, the Town of Strathmore issued a notice for the public that outlines the town’s status on cancelled events and services that remain open to the public.

The town has posted on social media, a list of facilities that are open to the public, known cancellations, and restrictions.

All gatherings of over 250 people have been cancelled. According to the town, smaller gatherings are being evaluated on a case by case basis.

Right now all facilities remain open and the town has high standards of cleaning and disinfection at those sites.

“We want our public to feel that their municipal government is in control and has plans for the future,” said the Mayor. “We want to get the most accurate information out to the people too, instead of sometimes there are rumours and things that get spread. We want to be proactive and get in front of that and get the proper messages out to people,” said Fule.

The Mayor also explained that the town is ensuring their essential services and staff are stable.

“We want to protect our employees. We also want to help Alberta Health Services manage the local response. Our policies are going to continue to develop because this is one of those viruses or situations where things can change quickly,” he said.

“We want to make sure that we are ready to evolve our response and be better able to protect Strathmore’s residents,” said Fule.

The town asks residents to get updates about town services through the My Strathmore portal on the town’s website, https://my.strathmore.ca/VCH/, and a dedicated webpage for COVID-19.
