Bone-chilling cold is on the way for Strathmore and the area this week.

Forecasted temperatures include a low of -39 C on Friday night (Jan. 12) and well into the -30s for the weekend.

"We have a storm system moving through southern Alberta with snow in central Alberta here today (Jan 9). Then behind that, we're going to get winds and a surface ridge of high pressure, which will be filled with Arctic freezing air," said Warning Preparedness Meteorologist for Environment and Climate Change Canada, Alyssa Peterson.

Peterson explained that as we head into next week, it will warm up.

"It should be still maybe below normal for this time of year, but not as extremely cold as this weekend."
