The Trellis Commons Family Resource Network is offering more free programming for youth in Strathmore and surrounding communities such as Carseland, Gleichen, Rockyford, Standard, Langdon, Indus, Dalroy, and Lyalta.

Trellis Family and Youth Resource Network Specialist Nyala Ponce explains some of the programming offered that can benefit those involved.

“We've got youth corner, which is a 12-plus program based on self-esteem, developing well-being, mental health awareness, emotional and social learning, and regulation and building connections with others in the community,” she said.

Along with youth corner, Ponce explained that Trellis also offers programming for Early Childhood Development, which she said would include the children and in some cases their parents, depending on the program.

Trellis collaborates with other agencies to bring in more programming which focuses on spiritual, physical, and social well-being.

“We do babysitting and home alone type courses for youth and we usually collaborate with other agencies, perhaps in the city or out of Chestermere to come in and run workshops or series like resume writing or interviewing skills.”

On January 26, Trellis will be hosting ‘Eat Right Live Good,’ where they will have a dietitian from the Primary Care Network come in and do a workshop to talk about the myths and facts about nutrition, healthy food, and healthy eating.

"They can ask questions and then we'll do a fun snack with them, like a quick, healthy meal that they can make on their own. Sometimes we have guest speakers, sometimes it's curriculum based around an activity."

Trellis is not only limited to youth programming, as Ponce expanded saying they also assist families with parenting classes like Triple P. In addition, the staff also participate in home visits and help with referrals for the food bank and other agencies.

As a non-profit organization, Trellis offers its programs and activity nights that include game nights, educational evenings, and other services free of charge.
