It's the unofficial start to the camping season in Strathmore.

Spots like the Wheatland Shores Campground are open to the public for booking during the long weekend.

The campground is located right next to Eagle Lake.

Kara Carriere, owner of the campground, says they are about 70 per cent booked for the weekend.

According to the Alberta government, as of May 1, over 68,000 reservations have been made for camping spots in Alberta parks.

Carriere added that their customers come from Strathmore and Calgary, along with several other communities around Alberta.

"Also, Airdrie, High River area. We also have some coming from Medicine Hat."

There are also more than 470 provincial parks and recreation areas in Alberta, which includes 250 campgrounds with close to 14,000 campsites.
