Recently Federal Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre appointed Airdrie Banff Member of Parliament (MP) Blake Richards to serve in the Official Opposition Shadow Cabinet as Shadow Minister for Veterans’ Affairs. Richards mentioned he is very honoured to be appointed to this role.

“Being able to serve, the riding in the constituency is the greatest honour of all. But, certainly to have the opportunity to dig in on this file, and one that I think is so critically important. I've always had an immense amount of respect for our veterans and reverence for them in the service they've given our country and to be able to be the one that stands up to be their champion in government is a pretty big honour.”

Veterans Affairs is the department of government that's responsible for ensuring that we honour the service and sacrifice that our veterans have made on our behalf. He will critique, advance and create solutions in that area on behalf of the official opposition. With acquiring this new role, Richards did have a message for all the veterans in this area that need his help.

“I will always be here for you this role or not. Please reach out to me anytime, and I will do everything I can to make sure that that's the government shows you the support and recognition that you deserve.”

Richards mentioned he does expect to hold this role until the next election and finished off by saying he considers it a real honour to be able to be the champion for our veterans, and we wouldn't have a democracy or the freedom we have without their service.

"We have to do everything we can to honour that."
