If you find yourself in a pinch and you need to contact the town or some other emergency department over the holidays, who do you call?

There are only a couple more days before the municipal office shuts down for the season. The Strathmore Municipal Building will be closed on Friday, December 24 at 12 p.m. and will reopen on January 4 at 8:30 a.m.

If residents in Strathmore have an emergency situation during that time they can contact the following:

Police, Fire, Ambulance: 911

Power Outage (Fortis): 403-310-WIRE (9473)

Sewer and Water (EPCOR): 403-934-9440

Operations (Emergency): 403-899-1428

Garbage and recycling schedules will remain the same.

Right now the weather seems to be getting colder with a bit more snow in the forecast.

In terms of snow removal in town, the Strathmore operations team starts plowing when the snow accumulation reaches 3 cm.

According to the Town of Strathmore, roads are triaged based on a priority system. Priority 1 roadways will be snow plowed and have snow and ice control operations concluded 24 hours after the end of a snow event. Roads are snow plowed to remove snow as close to the road surface as possible.

Priority 1 routes are:

Arterial roads and Expressways

Emergency services access roads

School zones when in session

Any roadways where the RCMP or Fire Department request additional service for public safety or emergency access

There’s also some good news for folks that want to stay in, or at home this winter. In classic Canadian fashion, you can build your own small ice rink, or buy one and install it in your backyard.

According to the Town, for now, there is no bylaw that prohibits building a backyard rink, but the town advises that if you are going to build one, you should avoid drainage ditches or utility right of ways.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Strathmore!
