The Wheatland Kings played an intense home game against the High River Flyers on January 12. Ultimately, the victory went to the Kings.

The first period was a fast and defensive start to the match, with no goals earned.

The start to the second period was defensive, but picked up when Garret Vander Ploeg scored from Isaac Benoit and earned the Kings first goal of the match. With a minute left in the period, however, the Flyers fought back with a goal, ending the period tied.

The third period transitioned to an intensely defensive period. With no goals earned by the end of regulation this brought the match into overtime. The Kings were defensive all throughout overtime, which pushed the game into a shootout. Against all odds, Tyler Skehar earned the winning goal in the shootout, ending the match with a final score of 2-1.

With such a tough and closely fought game for the Kings, they will be tough to take down in their next game on January 18 against the Blackfalds Wranglers.
