It's almost time to celebrate the special fathers in our lives this weekend.

The Strathmore Ag Society will be hosting its Father's Day Beer and BBQ Fest on Sunday.

Haley Hawes, the events coordinator with the society says they are hoping for around 500 people to take part in the festivities

"It's going to be a lot of fun. We're going to have a few local breweries and distilleries come and have some samples and some drinks. There will be BBQ food trucks of course, kids' activities, we've got live music, bean bag tournaments, pie eating competitions."

According to Hawes, the event is going to go ahead rain or shine, "We've got lots of stuff to do, we've got some inside buildings. Yeah, we're still operating."

This is the third time the Ag Society is putting on the event.

"We've got a couple years under our belt, so it makes it a little bit easier. But we've been working on it for the past couple of months."

For Hawes, it's important that the society puts on events for people to gather and socialize, "We've got our really big events like Clint Black and the Stampede, but it's nicer to do smaller things that kind of connect us a little bit more to the community."

Gates open at 1 p.m. on Sunday and the event will wrap up at 6 p.m.
