Sitting down with Dayne Greiner one of the members of the Calgary band NewLaw which is made up of three brothers Dayne, Ty and Cayd, we got the chance to talk with Dayne about what 2020 has meant for the brothers and the band.

Dayne and his two older brothers naturally found their way into a band together, Greiner explained that his older brothers and a third member were originally together and when they needed a drummer Dayne filled the seat and it slowly just became the three of them that continued on with the band.

Just turning 18 this year, Greiner has been playing with his brothers in NewLaw since an early age, "In 2013 our home was hit by the flood in Calgary and that was what really sparked our songwriting process and us joining as a band and we released our first EP in 2015, so it would have been around 2014 when started playing together and getting ready to record an EP."

Taking stock of 2020 for the Calgary band NewLaw has been a year where they have seen some very positive moments in their music. In February of 2020, the band was able to go to Nashville to work with songwriters Brian White and Wil Nance.

NewLaw also had an opportunity in 2020 not many people will get in a lifetime, "Back in October of last year somebody from America's Got Talent reached out to us and in March of 2020 we were flown down to L.A to perform in front of the judges," said Greiner.

Although the band did not get selected to continue Greiner said the experience of getting to perform on that stage was unforgettable, especially knowing that to get to that point that meant they were in the top 225 acts of the initial 50,000 auditions which the brothers are very proud of.

NewLaw released a video for their song You Take My Breath Away in February and featured real couples and there was an importance to the band to showcase the authentic side of real people, "It was just kind of in the thought process of the whole thing, we were just going to show how the couples in our lives interact with each as real couples in real relationships."

Greiner remembers the day he knew that the love he had for music was something he wanted to pursue, "I was at a Thomas Rhett concert and it was when he was singing Die A Happy Man just as the crowd was singing the songs back to him I knew this is what I wanted to do. I just realized how happy music makes other people including myself and I just want to be that person on stage making others feel the same way." Greiner knows that getting to follow this dream and perform with his brothers has made this journey even better

With so many people turning to the internet to stream performances NewLaw has seen an increase in online views throughout the year, as well the band has performed online a few times during 2020, but they are waiting for the day they can head back to the stage and continue to grow their career in front of a crowd.

As 2020 is coming to a close you can find NewLaw across all streaming platforms and check out their Christmas song here

Moving into 2021 the band is working with Casadie Pederson in Nashville and Pitbull Promotions out in Vancouver and Greiner says the band is planning to release what they think is their best song yet in early 2021.
