Earlier in the year, the town council was approached by the Calgary Mustangs to make a possible move to Strathmore. The Calgary Mustangs made a very compelling offer and they were very confident in the bid but were denied by the AJHL in the end.
Now the Calgary Jr. A hockey club has been forced to take a leave of absence due to a number of shortcomings within the Calgary market which were the main motivators behind the move to Strathmore.
President of the Calgary Mustangs, Mike Cartney released a statement citing low ticket sales and decreasing advertising revenue that has left the franchise in a financially difficult position.
Cartney said, "This decision is a difficult one, our history in Alberta has been passionate and hearty."
Now the club sits in limbo and awaits the AJHL's decision if the team can take a leave of absence.
