If you like a good old game of shinny on an outdoor rink, visit Chestermere next week and take in the second annual Western Canada Pond Hockey Championships.

For the second year in a row, the city of Chestermere will play host to the Tim Hortons Western Canada Pond Hockey Championships.

The event will take place on the lake at Chestermere December 27 to 29th.

The pond hockey championships are open to all ages, and this year they will feature ringette as well.

The event will also feature food vendors on site.

At the event, organizers have asked everyone in attendance to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the Chestermere Food Bank.

Chestermere Mayor Marshall Chalmers says, “We’re so excited. The Western Canada Pond Hockey Tournament is back for a second year in a row.”

“We have over 100 teams coming this year. We’ve got 14 rinks that are already built on the lake. We really encourage everyone to come down, watch and enjoy. I’ve heard that we actually have a couple teams coming from south of the border so this is going to be an awesome event,” Chalmers said.
