Darian Breaker, a student at Strathmore High School has been chosen to play for Team Alberta in the National Aboriginal Hockey Championships in the Yukon with teams from across Canada.

Breaker tried out for the team during Christmas break. She was unable to make the next two tryouts due to a concussion in January and provincials in March. The coach for the Alberta Team came to watch Breaker during the 2019 Native Provincials, which was followed up by an email saying she made it to the team.

Heading into the tournament Breaker is working towards increasing her training, “I’m just going to do as much as I can at home with workouts and shooting.”

“I’m still trying to process it because its my first time trying out for anything. I’m just really happy and surprised that I got chosen,” explained Breaker.

Breaker feels it will be a challenging experience as there will be a lot of AA and AAA players there, but she feels confident it will go well.

The tournament will be taking place in Whitehorse from May 6-14.
