Expressions the Dance Gallery (EDG) is Strathmore's only fully equipped dance studio, and has been bringing the community together for 40 years.

To celebrate, EDG is opening a new facility which is projected to open in September. The new facility will be over 4000 square feet, which is a big improvement from the current 2400 square foot studio. The new studio will have 2 very large dance rooms, which can become one big room since there's a partition in the middle.

Artistic director and owner Heather Thomas is hopeful the facility will not only be a big upgrade to dancers, but will also be a community gathering place.

"We hope also that we'll be able to hold some meetings, conventions, workshops."

With 40 years under their belt, EDG has become a big part of Strathmore. Thomas said the anniversary is really special to her, and she's loved the community involvement.

"I don't even know if I have words to describe it, because it's something you never think will happen when you start a business. It's crazy exciting," Thomas said.

"Our dancers love to give back to the community and share through the parades that we participate in, or the nursing home shows. One of our competitions this year the kids did a fund raiser, everything that they won is going to a charity in Strathmore. So I think just having the art for the community is awesome."

The involvement Thomas had with the community is something she doesn't take for granted; she said it's special to be able to work with kids and watch them grow.

"Being in Strathmore is such a special time because it's so community oriented, and having the chance to see these kids start when they're 3 or 4 years old and then graduate and move on... It's so fantastic to see within the community."

Thomas got her love of dance from her mother, who was also a studio owner. When she was 22 she moved to Strathmore, where she started EDG. Since then, she's seen her business become a growing family business.

"Both my daughters are dance teachers, certified instructors. My daughter in law is the office manager, and my son is the "Mr. do-it-all," repair man, make a prop, whatever needs doing."

The New studio should be open in time for the start of EDG's 40th season on September 1, but some supply issues caused delays. However, it won't be too long until Strathmore has a new dance facility and community hub.
