Another extreme cold warning is in effect for Strathmore. (The warning has ended at 1:35, Jan 19).

There were extremely cold wind chill values near -40 this morning (Jan 19) and that is expected to continue again tonight.

The extreme cold can put everyone at risk but the risk can be greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.

Make sure that you are on the lookout for cold-related symptoms which are shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness, and colour change in fingers and toes.

Dress warmly. Dress in layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind-resistant. Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.

Today (Jan 19) it is expected to reach -17 with a southeast win of 20 km/h. Tonight is partly cloudy with a low of -20 and a windchill of -28.
