The Calgary Flames got off to the start they wanted to in their NHL playoff series against Dallas Tuesday, August 11 in Edmonton sneaking past the Stars 3-2 to take a 1-0 lead in their best of seven series.

Dillon Dube scored a couple of beauties to stake the Flames to a 2-0 first period lead.

However, the Stars tied it up with two goals in nine seconds in the middle frame, but Flames defenceman, Rasmus Andersson, put them ahead to stay with his goal late in the second.

The Flames look to take a 2-0 lead when they meet for game two Thursday, August 13 starting at 8:30 p.m. in Edmonton.

The Tampa Bay Lightning got a measure of revenge Tuesday over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

It just took them five overtime periods to do it, as they got by the Jackets 3-2, 10:27 into the fifth overtime in Toronto to take a 1-0 lead in their series.

The Blue Jackets swept the Bolts in the first round of last year's playoffs in a stunning upset as the Lightning finished the season as the top team in the NHL by a wide margin.

The game was the fourth-longest in NHL history.

You have to go all the way back to 1936 for the number one longest game in Stanley Cup history.

That one saw the Detroit Red Wings outlast the Montreal Maroons 1-0 in the 6th overtime or a total of 116 minutes and 30 seconds.

However, because of Tuesday's late game, the Carolina Hurricanes and Boston Bruins will instead get going at 9 a.m. (MDT) Wednesday, August 12, from Toronto.

And the late game out of Edmonton Tuesday, saw the Las Vegas Golden Knights dump the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1 to take a 1-0 lead in that series.

The other four series all get going Wednesday as well, with the New York Islanders taking on the Washington Capitals starting at 1 p.m. (MDT).

The Arizona Coyotes face off against the Colorado Avalanche at 3:30 (MDT).

Down East, the Montreal Canadiens and Philadelphia Flyers kick off their series from Toronto at 6 p.m. (MDT).

And the final game of the night has the Vancouver Canucks entertaining the St. Louis Blues starting at 8:30 p.m. (MDT).
