Capital Power, a local company that is responsible for the Strathmore Solar Project has made a generous donation to the Wheatland County Food Bank.

Capital Power’s Brad Cochrane, manager of the Strathmore Solar Project was on hand to give the food bank a $2,000 donation.

Lindsay Cooper, Senior Advisor Community Investment explains that in December 2021, Capital Power held its Holiday Giving and Gratitude Campaign.

“In total, we contributed more than $290,000 in donations with a focus on organizations that had a focus on one of the following – mental health, food security, or poverty supporting organizations. And in Strathmore, we selected the Wheatland County Food Bank as the recipient.”

“Earlier in 2021, we surveyed our employees to find out the different focus areas that were most important to them and those three categories came up as the top three,” she said. “The employees helped with the direction of the funds that the funding came completely from Capital Power.”

Cooper said, “It's so important to support these organizations big and small. Food security is such a big problem in in all of our communities and we want to ensure that we're building a sustainable community and contributing to the issues that are affecting the people that live there. Especially with COVID right now we, we know that food security is a huge problem. Many people that haven't previously had to rely on banks for support, they're now needing to.”

Katherine Perron, Media Relations and Communications Manager explained that with the construction of the Strathmore Solar Project Capital Power is looking to be a long-term partner with the community.

“We're not just building a project to be operating remotely. We're going to be a part of the town. We want to be a neighbor of choice and for us in terms of our values, that means giving back. We're very committed to building sustainable communities and our community investment program is a big, big part of that.”
