Holy Cross Collegiate was the proud recipient of a large donation through a grant from Golden West Broadcasting's Canadian Content Development.

A total of $2,400 was gifted to the school.

Sarah Haughey, the music director with the school, says the money will be put to good use.

"Our percussion equipment for the drumlines- we have a marching drumline, and that equipment we've had for 12 years. And it's never been fixed or repaired. With this amount of money, we can fix almost all our bass drums."

Haughey says the school went to the Canadian Drumline Association competition this year.

"Drumlines all across Alberta came and our equipment, we left little bits of wood all around the gym floor because the rims are so destroyed. Just to come in with something a little more together will be really impressive. The kids have worked hard for that."

Whitnee Sidloski, the general sales manager of 104.5 More Country, says the contributions go on for the first seven years of licensing for the company and this is the sixth installment of donations that have been given out.

"This is the industry we work in. We understand that music and musical enhancements are extremely important. And local content. Anything that we can do to provide some of those programs with additional funding."

Sidloski says the funding is specific to supporting music, "We heard Sarah talk a lot about some of the instruments that need to be updated for the kids. And some of the things they've run into, financial struggles that they haven't been able to replace."
