A free option for kids' sports is back in action this year. Munchkin Sports, parent-lead free soccer program, is being organized once more after a two-year hiatus because of the COVID-19 pandemic,

We spoke with Denise Geremia about the program who explained that the kids soccer program will begin in May.

“With ours, it's 100% parents lead, they come in they put all the nets out. They take all the balls out. They teach the kids to kick the ball into the net. Don't touch the ball with their hands. And then they put everything back in the shed and they go home,” she said.

The program is geared towards kids who are three to six years old.

“Anything older than that, they should probably be able to do paid sports by then,” said Geremia.

“If you're questioning whether your child would be interested in going into paid sports, it's a great way to practice, and see if they even like it or are talented.” She explained that kids change their minds, and so this option is great to find out if kids are interested in soccer and if their like to keep doing it in the future.

“Next year, if they want to go into the paid program and they're good to go, and at least they have a little bit of background on it,” said Geremia.

“It's free. It's fun. It's basically drop-in, and as long as everybody is aware that they're all in charge of teaching the kids, we're good to go,” she explained.

Soccer is held on Monday afternoons from 4:15 to 5 p.m. from May 16th to June 27th. Tuesday afternoons 4:15 PM to 5 p.m. from May 17th to June 28th. Wednesday evenings 6 to 6:45 p.m. from May 18th to June 29th and Thursday evenings, 6 to 6:45 p.m. from May 19th of June 30th.
