Alberta Motor Association (AMA) is experiencing some extended wait time due to a higher-than-usual volume of calls.

"If you’re at the roadside and require service, please stay safe and try to get somewhere warm. Once you are safe, contact us to look after your vehicle," it says on the AMA website.

In cases of extreme weather, like the cold snap that we are experiencing and a higher volume of calls, AMA will call out a service alert for affected regions. During a service alert, some services are temporarily suspended and wait times for remaining services are expected to increase.

"Your safety is always our top concern, and we’re making sure that the members who are in the most danger get help first."

Strathmore is currently under a 2-hour wait time for towing, winching, battery boost, lockout, flat tire, or fuel delivery.

On the AMA road report, Highway 1 from Calgary going east towards the Highway 21 junction is partly covered with snow and ice.

AMA has 24-hour roadside assistance and can be reached at 1-800-222-4357.
