The Strathmore and Community Football Association (SFCA) Badgers celebrated their players and a great year with their awards ceremony on Friday night.

The Badgers President Doug Thiessen was happy with the turnout, as 120-130 people were there to celebrate and recognize both the players and the people that make the season possible.

"Everything went really well, the majority of the kids were there to get awards or recognize their teammates. And Donovan (Lamonda) was there to get recognized for 20-plus years since he's retiring, so it was actually a very good evening," Thiessen said.

Thiessen explained Lamonda was the first Strathmore ref that started after the association began and is responsible for a lot of the refs we currently have. Not only did the Badgers have a chance to recognize and celebrate their players and people within the group, they also had Strathmore High School Spartans Coach Danny Warrack and some Spartans players join as well. Thiessen explained Warrack and the players were there to help the Badgers players continue their football careers after the Badgers, as the Spartans will be looking for new talent as they try to build off of an amazing season.

The Badgers had more to celebrate than just their season though, as they also won the Santa Claus Parade. Thiessen said the money they won goes straight back into the Badgers or the community.

"We use that money to either pay for people that can't afford registration next year or if we have a surplus then the rest goes to the food bank."

Thiessen says training camp starts in May for anyone thinking about joining the Badgers next year.  He explained they're hoping to expand the club, as they're hoping to have 35 peewees and 30 bantams. This year they had 28 peewees and 20 bantams.
