Students in some areas across Alberta have already headed back to school and Strathmore students will be on the way very soon.

On Wednesday, August 31 Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools (CTRCS) will be welcoming back their students which will put the school zones back in effect.

While CTRCS heads back on Wednesday, the rest of the students in the Golden Hills School Division (GHSD) will be going back to school on September 6.

School Zones are in effect at the following times on school days:

  • 8:00am - 9:30am
  • 11:30am - 1:30pm
  • 3:00pm – 4:30pm

If you are caught speeding in a school zone fines will double up and could range from $75 - $475 if you are caught driving anywhere from 1-50km over the speed limit.

With students heading back, residents will see the return of many school buses in Strathmore and across Wheatland County.

Passing a stopped bus with the lights flashing could not only result in a potential accident, but could net you a hefty fine of $567 and a loss of six demerits points.

Playground Zones continue to remain in effect from 8:30 am to one hour after sunset.
