Strathmore and area is currently under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch.

"We have a system moving across Southern Alberta today, and with it, we are starting to see a few showers falling this morning already. But as we look at the afternoon progress, the worst of the thunderstorms will be over the province's southeast corner, so we are looking at areas mainly east of Calgary today," explained Ron Marks, Meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC).

According to Marks, moisture on the ground will fuel the thunderstorms coming our way.

"Once more sunlight breaks through the clouds today, that will help fuel these developing storms."

Mark mentioned that, fortunately, there are no signs of tornados forming in the area.

"The main threats we expect from thunderstorms today are large hail and strong winds. Of course, there will also be lightning, and some heavier rain is possible. Anytime we have severe thunderstorms, there's always that possibility of a tornado, but we are not expecting it."

The high expected for the rest of the day is 21 degrees, with a low of 8 tonight.

"Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!" ECCC stated on its website."
