April is volunteer month with a specific focus between April 14 and 20.

"The Volunteer Expo is our expression of celebration of volunteers in our community," said Donalda Ledene.

Ledene, a volunteer, explains how everybody should give back to their community and town.

"We have a marvelous community in Strathmore, and many of its organizations are driven by volunteers. Many of them have no paid staff and do everything as volunteers."

The Volunteer Expo is a perfect opportunity for members of the community who want to lend a helping hand to meet organizations that need people.

"Connecting with groups that need volunteers is perhaps the most challenging part for some people. We have 21 groups that are all run by volunteers who will be present. And if you come and check it out, you'll find something might be up your alley."

In her time as a volunteer, Ledene says her biggest highlight was when she was the Chair of the Summer Games in 2000.

"I met so many people, and it was a wonderful team to work with, and since then, I've been on numerous committees and teams, and I really enjoy it."

The Volunteer Expo will occur at the Strathmore Travelodge between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17.
